Hello,
Im planning on doing a quick trip through Bulgaria from Bucherest on my way to Istanbul.
I was wondering what the opinions of the beach towns of Varna & Burgas were. I was also thinking of doing an overnight in Ruse (Rousse). Are these cities too crowded in July? Also...am I going to feel bad for missing Sofia?

I liked Varna more than Burgas. You should see Nesebar (close to Burgas).It is pretty little town on a peninsula (almost island). In summer there will be a lot of tourists. Most of them on the beaches. With Ruse I cannot help, never been there. Don't feel bad for missing Sofia. Bulgaria has beautiful mountains, no less beautiful folklife. If there is a festival on your route don't miss it. Good and cheap red wine.

Although I like Sofia, it's really too far out of the way for your route. Travel times within Bulgaria are much longer than you would expect, compared to France or Germany, for example.

Varna is Bulgaria's hot spot. I don't belive Ruse will be crowded. It's close to the Romanian border and not such a touristic place.
