James: You are a continual font of great info about BudaPest. In 2011, we went to several of these pubs, and they are fun. Very surrealistic, very crazy. However, we never felt any kinds of problems. Just crazy places.

2 years ago my husband & I were a bit leery about going to a ruins pub because we were in our late 60s. Went to Szimpla Kert for a drink, before having dinner at Spinoza, and loved it! We will be back in Budapest for our second, and longer visit, in less than 90 days and because we enjoyed it so much, will definitely return for a glass of wine! Had a very good meal at Spinoza.

Spinoza's is very good on Friday night with the Klezmer show but there are a lot of all around great restaurants in town. And you are correct, the Ruin Pubs are sort of age generic. I am in my mid 50s and my wife is of an undetermined, but very young, age and we fit in most places. With some notable exceptions Budapest night life is pretty accommodating to most ages. Try Kadarka's wine bar next time. Its at the corner of Kiraly utca and Vasvari Pal utca. Sort of between the ruin pubs and the Opera house.

Thanks James, will definitely give Kadarka's a try. I agree... Budapest is a wonderful place and we are really looking forward to visiting again.
