Budapest, Eger, Krakow at Easter

We are looking at going to Budapest, Eger, and Krakow from Newark,New Jersey April 14 to 25th. We are locked into these dates because of the kids vacation from school. The cheapest airfare I'm seeing is $928 on Kayak into Budapest out of Krakow. That is expensive for 5 people. Does anybody have any advice on when I should book these tickets. I'd like to have the airline tickets purchased before I book hotel.

I'd wait until January to book tickets, but keep checking every week or so. A fare in the range of $700 would be a good deal in the off season.

Thanks Michael. $700 would be much better than what I'm seeing now!

Don't want to burst your bubble, but the tickets won't change that much because it is Easter vacation from the U.S.
When spouse was teaching we always ran into this problem--suggest you leave either earlier or later: did check CO for the 12th, however, it was $928 BEFORE the fees were added--be careful.
Don't know if AirBerlin is flying out of JFK at that time, but you might call them--there is a U.S. 800# on their website.

I've been traveling to Europe on Easter week for the past 10 years (out of Newark), and I've never noticed any spike in airfares because of the holiday.

Because you want to fly into 2 unbusy airports, open jaw, and set dates I wouldn't suspect flight prices would go down too much. From where I am at in the US under $1000 is a good price. Flying into the cities you want is upwards of $1500 for me.

Last time I flew to Europe ticket prices bottomed out about 4-5 months before we left.

We are actually flying Philly-> Budapest, Krakow -> Philly June 23-July 6. We paid $1140/seat (less $50 for getting the Expedia MasterCard, thus $1,115)) on Expedia last month As I am a tad compulsive I've checked since then not only do our combos no longer exist, but also anything now out there is higher, unless we would have wanted to lengthen the travel considerably by flying through Toronto or such., and that actually saved little.
If it were convenient for you to fly our of JFK I had noticed that Air Berlin had a great JFK-Berlin price, and if you could get the necessary budget connectors to and from there without expensive layovers this could save upwards of $200 per total ticket, although I no longer remember the specifics. I seem to recall also that there is direct and cheaper Lot from Newark to Warsaw, but then the savings start to disappear with the additional connections. For us, living just outside hilly, a transfer to NYC makes no sense. BTW, how are you going between Budapest and Krakow? We took a gamble that the Friday afternoon Orangeways bus from Budapest would be running then, their schedule is only up through the end of March. For some reason, when i asked they would not give info as to whether that Friday PM bus is standard on their schedule. If thta falls through then our costs go up as there is no cheap nor direct flight between these two cities, and we do not want an overnight train.
