Budapest Bucharest Istanbul and v.v. by overnight trains

Anyone done it by train? I've read seat61 and it sounds doable but I'm not sure. I'd love to hear from anyone who has done it in the sleepers or otherwise, who can tell me either that it was safe and fun or NOT. And if you're also thinking about it, next April, by all means let me know THAT. Maybe we could look out for each other enroute!

As I said, we went from Istanbul to Bucharesti, via Stara Zagora on night train. No fun. Very safe, take food and drink. be prepared for the time of your life.
