I have read there is a train from terminal 1 to the Nyugati train station, any information on that? Would 1 hour 15 minutes give me enough time to make the transfer? Thanks!
There are frequent connecting trains between the two. You can find the info you need at these two websites: Airport: http://tinyurl.com/6n8dkhj Train: http://tinyurl.com/77n48j6 When using the train website, put down 'Ferihegy' as your departure point and 'Nyugati' as your destination. Under 'Search Options", check 'Direct Connections Only'.
FYI: Terminal 1 has been or is about to be closed due to Malev ceasing operations. I would assume that the train station at the terminal will continue in operation and there is a bus from terminal 2 to get you there. When Malev Hungarian airlines grounded its planes earlier this year the company that operates the Budapest Airport announced that it would consolidate the flights being served by Terminal 1 into Terminal 2 and then close Terminal 1. There was a pretty good outcry and to date terminal 1 has remained open. Terminal 1 primarily serves the discount airlines, while the recently renovated Terminal 2 serves all the major carriers. You might be wise to keep track of the situation as the terminal may still close. No one really seems to know. For those who don't understand the impact to a traveler the two terminals are 6 km (about 3.5 miles) distant from each other. The train into town leaves from Terminal 1. There is a bus, about a 15 minute trip, that connects the two terminals. Also, if you purchased tickets last year or early this year you may be code shared with Malev. Apparently Malev and their code share partners did not do a very good job of notifying ticket holders. We have already lost one guest a couple of weeks ago because he became stranded in London on a Malev code share flight.
I would be hesitant to say that 75 minutes is enough time to make the transfer. You have two options to get from the airport to Nyugati with public transport. The Train:
It is important to realize that the Ferihegy stop isn't at the airport. Rather, you take bus 200E from the terminal to the train platform a few minutes away. From there, take the train to Nyugati station. The metro: The same 200E bus will take you to the end of the Number 3 (Blue) metro line. 12 stops will take you to Nyugati station. I usually take the metro (living in BP now). I know it will come every few minutes, so I don't have to worry about missing the train and lining up connections perfectly. I can use public transport tickets (buy at a machine at the airport) and don't have to futz with buying a separate ticket for the train. (And in poor weather, no waiting on the platform) If you must make this specific train, I would consider a cab, which, (I think) are capped at 22 EUR from the airport. Even that, however, is dependent on flights being perfectly on time. As a total side note, bus 200E serves both terminals, so even if your flight is bumped to T2, these plans still work...just have a few more minutes on the bus.
