Budapest Airport Terminal 1 and Malev Hungarian Airlines

When Malev Hungarian airlines grounded its planes earlier this year the company that operates the Budapest Airport announced that it would consolidate the flights being served by Terminal 1 into Terminal 2 and then close Terminal 1. There was a pretty good outcry and to date terminal 1 has remained open. Terminal 1 primarily serves the discount airlines, while the recently renovated Terminal 2 serves all the major carriers. You might be wise to keep track of the situation as the terminal may still close. No one really seems to know. For those who don't understand the impact to a traveler the two terminals are 6 km (about 3.5 miles) distant from each other. The train into town leaves from Terminal 1. There is a bus, about a 15 minute trip, that connects the two terminals. Also, if you purchased tickets last year or early this year you may be code shared with Malev. Apparently Malev and their code share partners did not do a very good job of notifying ticket holders. We have already lost one guest a couple of weeks ago because he became stranded in London on a Malev code share flight.
