bucharest

Has anyone traveled to bucharest lately ? Where are cheap places to stay for 1-2 weeks ? Prices are in euro , however , lei is the currency used ; how does that translate in value to the american dollar if one buys lei and then has to purchase in euro ( with euro's strong value against the dollar ) ?

What kind of cheap places are you looking for? There are several hostels with prices between €10-€15/night and a few budget hotels with prices between €20-€40/night.

In Romania one US dollar is about 3 lei (specifically, today's reference exchange rate is $1=2.95 lei) and one euro is about 4 lei (today €1=4.22 lei).

But don't worry too much about conversion rates, only accommodations are usually quoted in euros, most other things (food, transport etc.) are quoted in lei.
