Hi! I am flying into Bratislava and spending some time in the city, but I plan on going to visit Vienna too. Should I take the train or bus? (I going to be near the city center, not the airport, by the way) If so, how do I get reservations? Thanks so much!
Taking the train between the two cities was easy and required no reservations as it was a regional train. On this website, there is a link to the Deutsche Bahn's website in the Plan Your Rail Trip section under the Railpasses tab.
Amuch nicer but not more time-consuming alternative is to take a boat from Brat to Vienna on the Danube. Service is fairly frequent and the ride is a good one, leaving you at center of Vienna and leaving from center of Brat
The train is the easiest way to get to Vienna. It leaves close to every hour (although not exactly) from the Bratislava station. You do not need a reservation - just go to the station and ask for a ticket. It is usually around 13 euro for a roundtrip ticket. The trip takes around 1 hour.
The bus to Vienna leaves from Novy Most near downtown Bratislava and stops at the Vienna Airport on the way to Vienna.
I take the train as I find it more convenient.
Some of the ticket counter workers at the Bratislava train station do not speak English. Writing down what you want can help the transaction.
Enjoy your stay in Bratislava!
The advice given here is good. I would only add that taking the boat is the better choice if you have time. It is a relaxing trip with a variety of scenery .
I doubt that you will need reservations in that part of E Europe regardless of your choice of travel.
