We would like to know of any guides in Brasov, Romania that could take us to the Bran Castle and other points of interest in January 2009.
I don't know of any guide personally, but I saw a disccussion about guides in Romania on tripadvisor.com
try the lonely planet thorn tree forum. they have lots on romania.
When you get to Brasov go to the Tourist Information Office or telephone a travel agent and ask about a tour guide. It works for me.
Bran castle itself is quite easy to get to from Brasov. We did it last year - took a cab from downtown to the bus station (do your research to find the right one). The bus is only a 30-45 min ride to Bran castle. The bus drops you right in front of the castle. Coming back is just as easy.
There is a very helpful TI right in the middle of the main square in Brasov that should be able to get you further information. They helped us get a decent hotel right in town since we tend to prefer to pay to stay central rather than on the outskirts of a town.
Try Andrei Nicolau in Bucharest

We traveled with him and he is excellent as a tour guide.
Are you at all interested in driving? I did this a few years ago and it was a very easy country to get around in and allowed us the freedom to go where we wanted on a whim. Just rented a car in Bucharest and dropped it on the other side of the country where we took a train to Budapest. Sharing the road with the farmers and their cart and horses was the only drawback... but I looked at it as a bonus to be able to see the small villages. I am a photographer so it is important for me to be able to stop when I feel like it. You can take a look at my images from my trip at terrykathrynlawrence.com and see what its like. It was a great place to visit... the people were friendly, the food was great and the scenery was unique. You can email me any other specific questions if you decide to do the rental car.
