Booking tickets for Ferry to Hydra in early October

My husband and I are traveling to Greece in early October and spending our first night in Piraeus. We plan to go to Hydra the next day for two nights. Our hotel in Piraeus recommended what looks to be a travel agency for tickets and our hotel in Hydra recommends Hellenic Seaways. Also not sure how to get the tickets if we buy here in the US and have emailed both companies but have not received a response. For those with experience with the ferries to Hydra, can anyone offer suggestions of whether we should pre-book and if so, ideas for which company and how to get the tickets? We would like to take one of the first ferries and I'm not sure when the ticket booth in the port opens.

You can safely wait until you get to Athens to buy your tickets to Hydra. There are several ferries each day and they won't be full. Either buy them from a ticket office near Syntagma Square or at the port about an hour before your departure. The ticket offices open early, at least an hour before the first morning departure. If there's a choice go with Hellenic Seaways. Ferry Schedules Here
