My daughter and I have 3 nights open after the Istanbul tour and am thinking about Bodrum. Has anyone been there that can suggest what to do and where to stay?
I stayed at the Alias Pansiyon in one of several charming little garden bungalows that surrounded a swimming pool. Bodrum is an interesting small town with lots of places to shop and of course there is the Crusader Castle and the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. You can also take a local minibus to Gumusluk, just 30 minutes away, a quaint little fishing village in a quiet bay.
Bodrum is well known as the place many Turkish celebrities own vacation homes. beautiful fishing villages around the coast line and a very nice harbor with many traditional boats. you can charter one of the old boat out, or just ride the little domos to see little villages. you will walk the city along the water front which is connected with the shopping area, and castle is just the end of the harbor. they also have a pretty big market by the bus station host weekly fruits, veggies, and things like that, interesting to walk and take photos. There are folks at the bus station take you to hotels, or you can hunt down what you want. When you walk out of the bus station straight to harbor is about 10 min or less, and you should find places on your left just so you're close to the town center. Last time I went with one of the people at the bus station and his place is a little far but he did giveaway a free turkish bath which was a good value, so you may consider that if you didn't get one in Istanbul.
