We need to get from central Athens to the Airport to catch a 6:45 am flight. I don't think the metro runs that early. Any suggestions?
We had a similar flight a few years ago and all we did was ask the hotel the night before to call a taxi to be there at 4:00am. There was no problem for us and it was a fairly quick trip as there was little traffic...this was before the new airport though so I don't know if it would be different now.
Last I knew, the Metro does not run that early. There is however an express bus that leaves from Syntagma Square in Central Athens near the Plaka that operates 24 hrs a day. There are at least a couple buses an hour.
We had our hotel call a taxi. It was a bit pricey, but worth every penny. After calling, the Taxi is there in 5 minutes. And our hotel helped to make sure we didn't get ripped off.
We also had a simliar flight two years ago in Athens. The hotel called a cab for us, and it was ready when we were. The only thing, and I can't remember exactly what happened, is that he charged some kind of toll fee or something we weren't expecting. We had no other choice but to pay. Just be sure to clear up the costs and understand the charges with the hotel.
At that time it will be taxi. We left our hotel in Plaka at 3 am and it was complete traffic jam. At that time I certainly didn't expect it. Once on the freeway toward airport it was better. Taxi actually cost a little bit less than it would in other European cities.
