Best Place to book Croatian/Slovenian Hotels

I'm visiting Croatia and Slovenia this year and would like some recommended sites for booking good value Hotels.

Last year I visited Eastern Europe and thought Hostels.com was a great site to use to book overnight stays. I was pleased with the accomodations, however my wife was not! ;-)

So this year, I'm under orders to book hotels or Bed and Breakfasts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated for either booking websites or actual hotels/B&B's for the following places.

Visiting
Ljubljana, Dubrovnik, Split, Korcula, Plitvice.

Thanks

Dave

I'd like to second Steve's recommendation of BASE Rooms in Split, and toss in a recommendation for Dubrovnik.

In Dubrovnik we stayed at the Villa Ragusa (I think this is their main website), which is located within the Old Town walls and we found the price to be quite reasonable. One thing to note, however, is that getting to the main drag (Stradun) from the room involves a lot of steps. But, as the Old Town is built on a hill, steps are hard to avoid anywhere you might stay. It's not really that bad...

I guess it comes down to either budget or "quality" winning the argument. In my trip prep, I found prices to be rather high ($100/Night plus) and our trip had some unknowns, so we went the "find a Sobe as you show up" route. We stayed in Split (twice), Hvar, Korcula, and Dubrovnik; all in sobe found at arrival at the dock or bus station. We paid (In September) between $30 and $50 a night, and all of our rooms were wonderful, usually basic, and close to the old towns. Some do not like the unknown factor, but for us, it is part of the travel experience. The second time in Split, we did stay at BASE Sobe, I would recommend that, but would also recommend reservations if your date is firm, as you may notice, there are many RS readers after those rooms.

Thanks All.

I think Sobe's sound like a great idea, I'll check them out and the suggestions. :-)

We took a similar trip about 3 years ago and had a great time! We liked Ljubljana so much that we stayed 4 nights rather than the two that we'd scheduled. We used Rick Steves' book and found the Hotel Park in Ljubljana to be fine for us. It has mixed reviews on Trip Advisor but the location really is great.

In Dubrovnik we stayed at Paulina Cumbelic's sobe at #2 Od Tabakarije--not sure if she is still renting rooms but her phone number is: 020/421-327. The guidebook says that she is closed in winter. If you can find acceptable accommodations, it's best to stay near the Old Town.

In Kortula we stayed at Anka Portolan's sobe--nothing fancy but a great price in a good location.

Our sobe in Split wasn't one that I'd recommend as we arrived late in the day--it was arranged through the travel agency Turisticki Biro.

As an alternative we really liked Hotel Vila Sikaa in Trogir--not too far from Split.

Hope that gives you some options to check out!
Best,
Sharon

We have been to Ljubljana several times and stay at
Hotel Emonec, basic but clean and only steps away from Presernov trg and the Triple bridge...right in the heart of things! We love Ljubljana ..in fact there is nothing about Slovenia we don't like.

Sobes are good options. There are a few apartments and rooms recommended by travellers in the "Croatia and Slovenia" link on the Graffiti Wall of this website. For Dubrovnik, www.dubrovnikapartmentsource.com is recommended in guidebooks.
