Can someone please recommend some places to get a nice shot of the city of Prague? I'm looking for a shot that has a some cool bridges and lots of spires but I've never been there before and I'm going in May. Thanks so much in advance!
Don't worry, Prague is one big photo opportunity !!! Bring lots of memory....
I agree that there are loads of places to get good photos in Prague.
One place which would fit the bill, and is a favourite haunt of mine, is Letna park. On the same side of the river as the castle but further downstream this has a very pleasant cafe under the trees where you can sit and look at the rooftops of the city, the river itself etc.
Czech radio has some details in English here

This site also has quite a lot of other interesting bits and pieces about Prague.

John & Alan are right....Prague is incredible! Letna Park, especially up by the Hanavsky Pavilion, gives you great bridge views to the south. Either end of Charles Bridge has lots of spires: from Old Town bridge tower end toward Mala Strana & Castle Hill; from Mala Strana end toward Old Town. Also downstream in Vysehrad, I got a great shot from the garden of one of the statues with the twin church towers behind. There's a tiny little park not far north of Charles Bridge on the Mala Strana side, where you can get a classic shot of the river, ducks, trees, the bridge itself, with the Old Town behind it. Also, from the Belvedere Gardens north of the castle you get a great shot of St. Vitus Cathedral through the trees from the area near the Singing Fountain. The list goes on....
Others have already mentioned the Charles Bridge, but let me give an added tip- go early in the morning to get the best pictures. You'll find the bridge nearly empty at this time. Throughout the rest of the day, the crowds will obstruct most of your view.
Two spots for great panoramic views of the city are the walkway up to Prague Castle, and the from the spire of St. Vitus Cathedral.
For the best angles of the castle itself, try Charles Bridge early in the morning or on the opposite bank of the river.
Wow, thanks for the great tips! I can't wait to go!
You can also get good shots from up at the Strahov Monastery, which sits above Prague Castle/St. Vitus. As previously stated, Prague has many photo-ops. I went on the Berlin, Prague, Vienna tour last fall and the majority of my pics were from Prague. I took over 500 of just the city. Be aware, though, that Charles Bridge is undergoing restoration. I was there at the end of Sept. and the fencing was up, blocking a relatively small portion of the bridge. I'm not sure how far they've progressed and where they will be in May but you should still get great pictures as the crowds will cover up the fencing during the day. I also second taking shots of Charles Bridge in the morning b/f the 9am crowds show up. Enjoy your trip!
I agree with the Charles Bridge comments for exterior. My best interior photos in 2003 were from the balcony of St Nicholas Hussite Church (at Old Town Square) looking down through the fabulous crystal chandelier to the alter and singers below. Enjoy!
Another great shot is from the Old Town side of the river....somewhat north of Charles Bridge, but I can't remember how far. There's a bronze statue of Josef Manes (I think...fuzzy memory) holding his artist's palette & gazing south. I got him with the river mid-ground & St. Vitus on the hill beyond. To me, that's the essence of Prague. Also, be sure to take a cruise on the Vltava...lots of great buildings along the banks. If you're into Art Nouveau, you'll go nuts in Prague w/architectural details. If you're there in the spring, the fruit trees (cherries? apples?) are in bloom on Petrin Hill.
There are many outstanding photo opportunities in
Prague. Our favorite is just down the hill from
Strahov Library before you get to Loreta Church.
Also the Vltava River cruises offer several great
shots. You can board under the Charles Bridge.
Take the last one, about 5:00 pm which is normally
almost empty and gives plenty of room to take pictures.
