My husband and I are traveling to both Prague and Vienna next Spring and want to be well-located in each city for walking. Any suggestions for a moderate hotel in each city's best locations?

For Prague I would recommend the Hotel Metamorphis. I went on the Prague Tour last year and that's where we stayed. Just behind the Tyn Church near the Old Town Square - great hotel and great location.

In Vienna Pension Nossek in Graben. Perfect location for walking. In Prague Betlem Club in Old Town.

They had some fantastic deals when we went. Anywhere in the old city or the Mala Strana area will be centrally located. Although the dead-center old city is usually just PACKED with tourists. Mala Strana is a bit quieter and quainter. Mala Strana and Old City are separated by the river but connected via the Charles Bridge.
Another extremely nice area was the Jewish Ghetto which is where we always ended up for some reason...It's like a neighborhood in the city with lots of shops and restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was Chez Marcel. There was a hotel nearby that look really wonderful and wonderfully affordable...the Hotel Hastal http://www.hastal.com/en/home-en.html
Personally we stayed at "The Three Storks" in Mala Strana which was VERY nice. Not too far away was the Hotel Roma which gets consistent quality reviews on tripadvisor.
