Berlin to Prague: Bus or Train?

I am trying to find a reasonably priced connection between Berlin and Prague, by bus or train, for two passengers. Ideally I would like 12.02 overnight, but 13.02.13 is a possibility too. Which are the reliable bus lines? I've checked out the train and the daytime one which runs from Berlin to Prague is E58, but it won't get us in until 11AM, and I'd prefer to spend our night traveling if that's possible to make the most of the time.

Train is more comfortable and faster. However there is no overnight sleeper because distance is not sufficiently long. You can take train leaving Berlin Ostbahnhof at 4:53 and arriving at Prague Main Station at 9:26. I would not bother with a bus. Too slow.

Heather, I'd suggest travelling that route by train. It's a very pleasant and easy trip (about 5 hours as I recall). Note that there are a couple of stations in Prague, so you'll need to specify the desired station when you buy your ticket. Praha hl.n is probably the easiest one to use. Happy travels!

Looking at Eurolines, which is the main bus website for Europe, I see that buses between Berlin and Prague take 4 h 30 min or 4 h 45 min. They don't seem to run at night (again, too short a run to do this). The full fare is €39, and discount fares are €31. So, this bus would be cheaper than the train for one person, or for last minute purchase, but the train is cheaper with advance purchase for 2. The train you initially proposed seems the best option. Bring a picnic dinner, and look at it as part of the adventure.
