Bed and Breakfast in Krakow

My wife and I will be in Krakow in mid Oct. And we are looking for a nice bed and breakfast ...local flavor and not too expensive. We have used Rick Steve's recommended places and have always been pleased, but I can't seem to find one in Krakow...any suggestions???

How long do you plan on being there? If you're staying for 5-7 days, look into an apartment. We had a very nice little apartment 1/2 block off the square for 6 days. Kitchenette, so we stocked the refrig with basics for breakfast. Quite inexpensive and very convenient.

Jim Thanks for the idea....we will only be there 2 nights though and not sure we need an apt? Was the apt you got close to old town? How much was it? ed

We were there 3 yrs ago and the apt was $65 a night for 6 nights, $390 for a week. It was in Old Town, about 50 yrds off the square. It was very convenient to everything. The apt also included an automatic washer so we did some laundry while there. Maybe 100 yrds from a 'supermarket' where necessary milk, cereal, fruit, beer (of course) and some snacks. The only meal in the apt was breakfast. I don't know if I'd bother for only 2 nights. Get a hotel in Old Town, tho. For 2 nights you should be close to the Square for convenience. See the Castle, the Salt Mine, visit Cloth Hall and wander the town. Auschwitz will consume the better part of a day. Leave early in the day so you can visit both camps. Plenty of activities to fill 2 days.

Check out inyourpocket.com, they have detailed yet concise reviews of all sorts of accomodations in all price ranges, plus just about anything else you want to know about Krakow. Be sure to allow time to just wander around and absorb the atmosphere-the Old Town is ringed by a park which replaced the old city walls, so it's almost impossible to get completely lost. However, in October the evenings get incredibly foggy, so make note of landmarks along the way. I found that out the hard way:)

I'll echo what Penny said, but ration your time. Two days is not much time to devote to Krakow. If you've never been to a CC, Auschwitz is a 'must'. Otherwise, time could be better spent wandering the back streets of Old Town. If it's possible to change your itinerary, Krakow is certainly worth another day or two. Skip the Jewish Ghetto and Nowa Huta.
