AVA Hotel in Athens??

Has anyone stayed here? It gets great, rave ratings on Tripadvisor but I'm wondering if it's just because it's in a good location but otherwise overpriced and touristy?? Looking for something really nice, charming and in a good location for walking to sites, etc. Very active bunch..walking several miles per day won't phase us. Any info appreciated!

Tripadvisor is an excellent source for reviews, so is www.booking.com. If you want answers to more specific questions you can send a private message to the TA reviewers. The most central hotels are on Mitropoleos Street between the Monastiraki Metro Station and Syntagma Square, and on some of the other streets in the same area. Check the Pella Inn, Magna Grecia Hotel, Metropolis Hotel, Plaka Hotel, Amazon Hotel, Pan Hotel, Arethusa Hotel, Athos Hotel, Hermes Hotel, Attalos Hotel, Tempi Hotel and Central Hotel.

Allison The Ava is fine, but is a fairly standard and bland hotel. If you want somewhere with a bit more character have a look at the Art Gallery Hotel. http://www.artgalleryhotel.gr/site/index.php It's only a few minutes walk from the Acropolis but is in a nice neighbourhood, rather than the absolute centre of Athens. It's close to Syngrou Fix metro station, so access from and to the airport is easy. Finally, the family who run it are really friendly an helpful. Have a great trip. Alan

I've stayed at the AVA and loved it. It earns it's TA review. But to each their own. It's more pricey I'm sure than other fine options. It's more like a standard hotel than a quaint, family run inn. But the staff is great and accommodating, the breakfast is wonderful and the location cannot be beat. I'm not sure what you mean by "touristy." By definition, every hotel, inn, B&B or hostal will be filled with tourists.
