Auschwitz by Bus trip report

Got off the overnight train from Prague, went upstairs checked the train schedule, then bus schedule (they are right together). Bus departed in 15 minutes. There are quite a few per day of each. Stowed my suitcase. Paid driver 11 zloty ($4 ish). Was at the back of the parking lot in less than hour and a half (very close). Signed up for the 10 am guided tour (30 zloty?). Small reverent group. Lots of big school and other groups made it very crowded still in Nov. Rode back to Krakow with a woman who had paid a small fortune for a private driver. Back in town by 3:30 - 4 - just enough time to locate hotel in daylight and walk back to bus station to retrieve bag. Recommend this

Thanks for the trip report! I will be going to the same cities in May and I will also be traveling alone. Did you stay in hostels? If so, can you recommend any places?

Vienna-Pension Pertschy (79E single) was perfect location-very happy with it. Good bfast, could access internet in lobby.
Prague - priceline $103+their fee - Imperial Hotel, this a very nice hotel for the price, good location, easy walkiing and public transport. Great restaurant, free internet in lobby.
Krakow. Ended up being about $70 per night (thought it was $100) at 392 zloty for 2 night stay (included bfast). Kind of old and tired (like me). But absolutely fine and good location to bus/train and just off the main drag (would be very loud to be right on). Internet about 8 zloty/hr (cheap).
Budapest: Priceline, Marriott $79+fees. Great location (all rooms w/view). But only hotel without free bfast and internet (mcdonalds close, they seemed to have wireless internet and good coffee for about $1 US.

Can you search posts by my user name? I have another one that might be relevant to you (they don't let you include much information on each reply).
