We are on a business cruise concluding in Athens, May 2011. Are interested in going to Solvenia fome Athens. Have checked flying into Vennia or Salzburg, then renting a car. Is there a better route to pursue from Athens? Joan.

There are direct flights on Adria (Slovenia's natl airline). You will also be able to connect in numerous other European cities to get to Ljubljana.
I would think Salzburg is a better connection to Ljubljana than Vienna - assuming you are flying there and then taking a train or driving. If driving, do some research, you will probably pay a huge amount if you rent a car in one country (say Venice, Italy) and drop it off in another (Slovenia).
One alternative to consider - fly Athens to Zagreb and then take the train. I believe it is only a 2 hr ride from Zagreb to Ljubljana.
By train you would have to probably go Athens-Belgrade-Zagreb-Ljubljana which will be a very long journey. Check out the Deutsche Bahn website for all the detailed train timetables.
