how do you get from athens to olympia? Is there a train that goes right to it? The trains' website was of no help!

I rented a car to get there, and it was pretty easy.

No train direct. You have two options, Bus or Train/Bus. There is fast train service to Patras, from there you can get a bus with one change into Olympia. You can also travel by bus from Athens, the Greeks are pretty good about pointing out the tourist routes, so getting a ticket is easy. There may also be private coaches that may get you there faster, but at a cost, and probably as part of a rushed tour.
