We are planning to take the Rick Steves Greece tour in May 2014. The tour ends on a Sunday and we plan to fly from Athens to Paris on Sunday. The flight leaves at around 8:30 am. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to get a cab early on a Sunday morning, how long it takes to drive to the airport, and if the hotel can arrange for a cab and is it significantly more expensive? Using the hotel's driver I assume is much more expensive. Can they just call a cab for us. I would prefer to take a 5:30 am cab since the day time rate of 35 euro applies. Does that leave enough time to get to the airport and get through security? Thanks for any advise.
Hi David, We took a cab to the airport for an early morning flight and had no problems. We stayed at the Atalos and they had a cab ready and waiting for us. When checking into the hotel, I would ask them about having a cab ready for you when you need to leave, they should be very helpful. Also leaving at 5:30 a.m., it will take approx 1 hour to get to the airport, maybe less because there will be no work traffic, and that should leave you 2 hours before your flight.
Ditto to what Michelle said. Different hotel - same result.
5am-Midnight the taxis are €35. Midnight-5am the taxis cost more, €50 to the airport. Your hotel can arrange one for you but it might cost even more since it's by appointment. It will take about 35-40 minutes to reach the airport. If your hotel is within walking distance to Syntagma Square there is an Airport Express Bus (X95) that leaves from there every 20 minutes, 24/7/365, and at that early hour will take about 45 minutes. The fare is €5 per person.
