Athens sight seeking in 1 day...

Visit the Parthenon, Agora, New Acropolis Museum, National Archaeological Museum and go shopping in the Plaka below the Acropolis.

Thanks Lee.. I arrive in Athens around 2pm...will some of these places still be open? if so, what do you suggesst to go first?

You need to do a google search to determine which attractions will still be open in the late afternoon. Arriving at 2pm you won't be checked in to your hotel until well after 3pm, and some of these do close early. Definitely the Plaka will be open.

you can do the Parthenon first afteroon. i think it closes around 6 or 7, and you should be able to see the hill top section. you may want to get a packed ticket tha covers most sites around the hill, so the 2nd day you can see the agora and other smaller sites. some are ok to just take a look from outside, so you can save time to see the colosseum and museum on the back of the Parthenon hill, from there you can walk to the temple of zues and cross street there is a nice park next door to the parliament. it'll be a very busy day, so you may want to squeeze in as much plaka and change of guards on your first night - the chagnge of guards can go on till pretty late.

The ticket for the Parthenon already includes tear-off tickets for the Agora and other sites nearby.
