AThens rrestaurant

We are starting our three week European vacation in Athens (JULY) and would love the name of a restaurant at the Plaka that has lots of local flair, real local diners and good prices. Any ideas??

There are 3 places in Plaka I'd recommend:

The Byzantino, in the square where Kidathineon meets Gerontas. This is just off off the top of Adrianou, the main street that runs through Plaka. Consistently good food and a great place to sit.

The Hani, round the corner on Adrianou itself, has a similar menu and prices and live music. Its outside area is much smaller though. A picture, if you're interested, at

The Platanos just across from the Musical Instruments Museum at the bottom of Plaka, by the Tower of the Winds.

The kebab restaurants around Monastiraki square all have a mix of locals and tourists and are very lively.

To be sure of getting a local feel anywhere you need to eat later. Not before 9 at the earliest. Also many locals now eat in Psyrri - the area the other side of Ermou from Monastiraki Station - where places are slightly pricier than the places I've mentioned, but more authentic.

Cheers
