I was checking out hotels for our upcoming trip to Athens. I remembered reading about Hotel Plaka and Hotel Hermes in Rick's book, other guidebooks and on TripAdvisor. I found some incredible rates on their websites. Standard double rooms including breakfast are coming up 125 Euro for most nights (I only checked during the week - both June and September) with the 3rd night free and a 48 hour cancellation policy. It didn't work when I clicked on the special, but when I used the hotels regular online booking tool the special rates came up. Three nights in the center of town for a total of 250 Euros just seemed like an amazing deal that I thought I would share (of course I booked my reservation first) I'm not sure how long the deal is running... Also, has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? They seem to be highly recommended, but any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated as I have only walked by them on past trips to Athens.

We stayed at the Plaka about 5 or 6 years ago and found it perfectly fine, though to be honest, I have no memory of the room at all ... which I guess means it was all right. What I do remember is the rooftop terrace from which we could see the Parthenon. I was thrilled with that sight.
