My 24 year old son is traveling alone to Athens and Greek Islands. Does anyone know a hostel in Athens in a safe area? What about the Island Ios? or which do you recommend for a short stay? Thanks.

In Athens he can safely stay at the Student & Travellers Inn or Athens Backpacking. On Ios he can stay at Far Out Camping.

Thanks. Do you recommend Ios? or maybe Corfu? Also do you think he can get to the port from the airport if his plane arrives at 2:15 for a 4:15 to Ios I think might be sketchy. Is Ios a party place all year? everyday?

In July Ios is a 24-hour Rave for young backpackers. If that's what he's looking for he'll certainly find it there. Even with no delays 2 hours is still cutting it too close for comfort, and by the time he gets out of the airport it will be more like 1.5 hours, perhaps less depending on how long it takes to collect luggage and clear customs/immigration. The bus to the ferry port takes about 1.25 hours when there's no traffic jam, but by 4pm there will be a backup which could cause more delays. With only 5 days, the only way to get to Corfu without wasting too much of his time is to fly.
