Athens budget hotel for bum knee

Will be 4 nights in Athens. Sometimes have a bum knee, so need budget hotel w/either elevator or or room on 1st floor (so only 1 flight of stairs). Since I need to rest more than some, we also like to have a balcony available. Also want to minimize distance to sites. Hoping to spend around 70 Euro ($100 US). Have researched Hotels Tempi, Phaedra, Phidias, & Myrto & would like opinions of these based on our criteria. Would also like any other suggestions anyone might have. Thanks!

Hi Mary ...
The Attalos Hotel is close to your budget, and it has an elevator. Some of its rooms have balconies, and there is a roof-top sitting area (accessible via elevator). It's a short walk to the Plaka and Acropolis, and about a block from a metro stop. I visited Athens once shortly after a knee injury, with an ace bandage and a zip-lock bag that I regularly filled with ice. I enjoyed it despite the challenges, and know you will too. Good luck!

Mary You'll need to rule out the Tempi. It's a nice hotel but has no elevator, the lowest rooms are on the second floor, and the stairs are very steep. I like the Attalos but the balconies don't have much of a view. On the other hand it has a good roof garden with Acropolis view. The elevator doesn't reach this but there is only one flight of steps up from the top floor. Probably my choice would be the Phaedra. The rooms aren't as large as the Attalos but many of the balconies have views of the Acropolis and there is an elevator to each floor. It is also the closest to the new Acropolis museum and the entrance to the Theatre of Dionysus. There is now disabled access to the top of the Acropolis via an external hoist / lift in the middle of the north walkway. You will need to talk to people at the ticket office or the Acropolis Museum (I'm not sure which) to arrange a member of staff to access this for you. I've no idea whether you need to be registered disabled to us this but I thought it was worth mentioning. Cheers Alan
