We will be arriving at the Athens airport at 2:30 a.m. in late June and want to take an early morning ferry to Mykonos. Can anyone suggest which port to go from, Piraeus, or Rafina. Also, what is the best way to get to the ports from the airport, a city bus or taxi. Lastly, we are looking at walking on a car ferry. Is this a good idea? And should we reserve? Thanks
There is an airport express bus to Rafina, and the ferry from Rafina to Mykonos takes as little as 2 hours if it's a highspeed ferry. This bus starts running around 6am and costs 3.2 euro per person. A ferry from Rafina is a much better option than going from Piraeus because Rafina is closer to the airport, about 30 minutes by bus, as well as closer to Mykonos. You can also take a taxi to Rafina, of course. A taxi will cost around 20 euro but before 5am it will cost double that.
You can buy ferry tickets once you reach the port from the travel desk of Amphitrion Holidays in the Main Hall between Exit/Entry doors 2&3. They're open 24/7. Advance purchase in June isn't necessary, but if you buy them from Amphitrion be sure to have some cash, I read recently that they don't take credit cards. There are plenty of ATMs at the airport.
