Athens Airport Hotel

We have a very early flight (6 a.m.) departing Athens this July. To check in 2 hours prior and transport from downtown would mean getting up at, what, 3 a.m.? So, we thought it would be better just to stay the last night near the airport, I haven't found any suggestions in the guide books. Does anyone have suggestions on a reasonable airport hotel?

It's not cheap (about $200 a night is the best you'll do), but the upscale Sofitel Athens Airport is right next to the terminal. It is a very nice hotel. You can't get any closer.

I collected the following info last year from various Helpline posts (I have not stayed in either one). These are two hotels near the Athens airport with free transportation to/from the airport, but probably not at 4 am. You could contact them and get prices and taxi prices, and compare that to the Sofitel (where we have stayed, and you just walk across the street to the airport so no taxi needed). You could also compare all of these prices to staying in downtown Athens and taking that early morning taxi. We've done that too ... it takes about 45 minutes ... I think there's a fixed price (45 euros? You could ask your hotel; they would arrange the taxi for you.). It's nice to spend your last night in Athens, and you just lose about an hour of sleep. Peri's Hotel: Peri's Hotel out by the airport will pick you up and return you to the airport for free between 7am and 11:30pm. Charles I've stayed in the Peri's, which Charlene mentions. It's absolutely fine, and the people are helpful and friendly. It's rather stuck out in the middle of nowhere though. There is one taverna, which is quite nice, in walking distance. I would probably go with Charlene's suggestion of having a nice last evening in Athens and accepting you are going to get a bit less sleep. Alan

We have to be at the airport at 4:30 so I think we should stay at the Sofitel. However it appears that they only have doubles and there are three of us. What do you think we should do? I don't think we can afford two rooms there.
Thanks,

Ask if they can provide a 'foldaway' bed.
