Visa and Mastercard are accepted worldwide. Just be sure to inform your CC company and bank of your intention of using your cards while travelling so your account isn't frozen from suspicion of fraudulent usage.

You won't have any major problems. Any business that deals with tourists on a regular basis has the hardware to read our magnetic strip cards.

Our Visa and MC were accepted everywhere in Poland last fall, but a couple times we ran into the "dynamic currency conversion" issue. That's where they ask you if you want to be charged in dollars or in zlotys (the local currency). As has been discussed previously on the Helpline, when and if this happens to you, always choose zlotys. That way your card issuer will determine the exchange rate, not the local merchant.

And thanks for the reminder about choosing the local currency when given a choice, I was forgetting that! Do any of you know about ATM machines in Poland, particularly Nowy Tomysl (if anyone has been there)? I'd assume there will be lots like most places, but I have not found actual addresses. Anything different about Polish ATM machines compared to most of Europe?

We were in Poland last summer and had no problems with either debit or credit cards.

We just returned from Krakow on the 21st. We had no problems with ATMs or credit cards while there. Ashley

We just returned from three wonderful weeks in Poland. We had no trouble with our cards whatsoever. We did notify our cc companies before we left. American Express is not as widely used as Visa & MC. Enjoy!
