Alternative route to Istanbul from Seattle

This June I am going to Istanbul via Almaty, Kazhkstan. Looking at the globe, would I be too silly to consider going east from Seattle rather than the via Europe route? Experts, what do you think of this crazy thought?

I think europe is northeast of Seattle. I think Istanbul is a tad more northeast of Seattle. If you go from Seattle to europe, you're going more east than west, if that's your question. Going east from Seattle, you pass europe on the way to Turkey. Going west to Turkey is the long way around. Crossing over the norther part of Greenland saves miles due to the difficult-to-understand great circcle concept. What part of globe and compass don't you understand, exactly? Or was the question, just seeking an opinion of whether or not you're crazy? :)

I think you meant to ask if you'd be silly to consider going WEST from Seattle. If you take the via Europe route, you ARE going east. Why not just price both routes and make the decision that way?

Having thumped you with the harassment stick, what would be really neat is to go one way and come back the other. Then, the next time you're taking tea with your friends, you can casually mention the time you 'went around the world'. Go for it, even if it cost a bit more.

What about flying west, maybe passing through China or Japan, and taking the Trans-Siberian Railway across the continent, eventually making your way to Turkey? That would be a trip to remember!

In real estate it is location, location, location. Here it should have been proof read, proof read, proof read :). I hadn't thought of the around the world concept...it has merit. Thanks for the gentle, yet deserved thumping!
