I am looking for personal recommendations on hotels as close as possible to Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest, Romania. Much of what I read on various travel blogs alludes to prostitution and assorted seediness at the airport hotels, so I'd love to hear an unbiased review from anyone who has stayed there personally. This will be for my last night only, and I want to avoid hotels in the city proper because I have an early flight and do not want to fight the legendary Bucharest traffic. Doesn't have to be fancy - just clean and safe. Thanks in advance!
If you have an early flight then you really don't have to worry about traffic. We stayed in the city (this was 3 years ago) and just caught a cab. Didn't have any issues. This was for a 7am flight if I remember correctly. Just make sure you pick the right cab so you don't get ripped off (read the inyourpocket guidebook for the acceptable cab companies).
Instead of hotels you could stay at the various small guesthouses in Otopeni town (which is just south of the airport) like Andrea ( http://www.pensiunea-andrea.ro/contact.html ), Crumed ( http://www.pensiuneacrumed.ro/rezervari&contact.htm ), Toparceanu ( http://www.vilatoparceanu.ro/Contact.html ) etc. - these places usually have a much 'cleaner' atmosphere than hotels.
