Airline reservations Turkish Airlines

We will be flying from Tel Aviv to Istanbul. I once read that flights are cheaper if a travel agent books rather than booking directly on the web from the airline. Has anyone had experience with this?

I doubt that it's true, but since you already know the name of the airlines it's easy enough to check it out by doing a mock-booking on the TA website to compare to the price your travel agent quotes you. If you haven't done so already, check prices on El Al Airlines as well.

I checked all around before booking my Turkish airlines flight for this summer and found by far the cheapest fare on Expedia.Booking directly with Turkish Air was the most expensive... I travelled with them last year as well and that was directly with Turkish Air so you really have to shop around.

In summer of 2008 when we took an internal flight in Turkey (Istanbul - Gaziantep) the price from the travel agent was slightly cheaper than booking the same tickets on the web.

I always do alot of research for flights checking all the sites like Expedia, Kayak, etc as well as the airline's websites. So far I have always ended up booking my international flights with a travel agent as they have always been able to beat any price I have found online. Shorter domestic flights or flights within the trip itself I have booked myself usually directly with the airline. Booking with a travel agent also gives you some peace of mind that you have someone that will help in case the airline goes bellyup and leaves you stranded.

I agree with the replies above--travel agents won't beat the prices you can get online. Where travel agents can get you cheaper fares is on Turkish discount airlines like Pegasus, AtlasAir, Onur Air, etc. So if you end up taking any internal flights on discount airlines, you might use a travel agent in Istanbul. There are about a dozen or more on Divan Yolu in Sultanahmet--and most have English speaking agents.
