We stayed at the Amadeus Hotel.

You can see pictures of our trip at our blog:

The room and size were average, gingersnap cookies on the bed were a nice touch (although, there is no nightly turn down service to the cookies never appeared again). The room smelled strongly of orange which was very welcome at first but after a while we found the source (a plug-in) and removed it from the wall as it was becoming over-powering. Still, I preferred to have removed it and had the nice smell to begin with over not having it smell at all!

The bathroom was very clean, stand-up shower only, but nice robes were also provided. The room had a small safe which was nice. The breakfast was good with all that you expect on a European breakfast buffet. We were also give 20% off any menu items for lunch or dinner at their restaurant.

The location of the hotel is great. Walk out the front door, to the right, and you're about a block away from the main square. You'll pass by several restaurants and pubs so you'll never be hungry.

We were only there for a couple of days so we hired a guide to make the best use of our time. We used Anna Gega a couple of times. Anna was a sweetheart and an excellent guide. Her website is;

I was in Krakow in May and stayed at Mama's Hostel. It has to be the best hostel in Krakow. Very clean, great breakfast, even a washer dryer you can use for free. It has a great location just 10 mintues to the train station and 10 seconds to the main square.

You don't really need a tour. Most of the sights you can see on your own, like the square, main church, and castle. Sindlers factory is about an 45 min. hour walk. Aschwitz is very easy to get to on your own, don't take a tour you really will need to spend time at the camps the tour can not give you. If you go to trip advisor and search aschwitz directions someone has posted all the directions, it is just over an hour by bus and the stop at the camp has a sign with the times of when it goes back.

It is an amazing city have a great trip!

Hotel Saski sits within meters of the town square... can't beat the location. The rooms were spacious, if not extravagant. The WC and showers are shared facilities, but they feel private enough.

I'd agree with Tom that the best place is Krakow
is Hotel Saski, a few steps from the square. As
he says you can get a room with shared WC, but it
also has many rooms with ensuite accmodations.

This Hotel has a great breakfast included and a
good restaurant on-site, I believe it is the
Metropolitan.
