Accomodation in Olomouc

Any recommendations for midrange accomodation in Olomouc? I'd also be interested in what daytrips others have enjoyed. Spending ~4 days there this spring after a few days in Prague.

Despite being in Olomouc several times I never stayed overnight. There are several suggestions for accommodation in Olomouc in Rick Steves book: Prague and the Czech Republic. For day trips you have many options. To name just two: Kromeriz and Karlova Studanka. Kromeriz:what to see there: Chateau and Castle Garden. Worth seeing is also Flower Garden. You can get there from Olomouc by bus or by train with change in Hulin (about one and half hour). More in R.S. book -see above.
Karlova Studanka is a beautiful spa mountain resort. You can get there by direct bus from Olomouc (about one hour forty minutes) or by train to Bruntal then by bus. For pictures and more information google Karlova Studanka.

When I was there in 2007, I stayed in the Hotel U Domu (recommended by RS). It was a huge room with cooking facilities (it was probably converted from a family's apartment), and breakfast with eggs was included. It was a 10 minute walk or very short tram ride from the center. I got a day ticket for the trams, and since this was valid for 24 hours, I was able to use it to take trams from the train station to the hotel to the center, then back to the train the next day. I'd certainly stay there again.

I'm curious what you're going to do for 4 days in Olomouc. I found it very interesting - for a day. But unless you're planning a couple of daytrips, I think you'll run out of things to do.

We stayed in Olomouc in Sept, 2012 for two nights at the Angelus Pension. Wonderful creaky old hotel very nicely appointed with wooden beams and antique furniture. We had a three rooms suite overlooking the main street with a nice view of St. Wenceslas Cathedral across the street. Good breakfast, free secure parking and very nice and accommodating host. The hotel is on the edge of the old town but is a 5 minute walk into the center. The tram into the center also stops right in front of the hotel. Some street noise from the trams and cars on the cobble stones plus the bells of St Wenceslas but with windows closed it is minimal. Olomouc has a beautiful old town and two days is sufficient.

Thanks all. Rick's recommendations are generally pretty good but travellers on this site are a great resource as well!

I should probably start a new thread, but was looking for similar recommendations for the Znojmo area. RS doesn't cover it for some reason (or at least in the version of the guidebook I have, which is a few years old now). Lonely Planet has a few but their recommendations are often more geared towards backpackers. But I do appreciate that LP covers a wider range of towns than RS.
