Accommodation in Budapest -

I am meeting my daughter in Budapest June 19-23. Any suggestions on Rick Steve's B&B or hotel accommodation recommendations - reasonably priced for that time. Thanks,
Scot

Scot, I visited Budapest as a single traveler. I was looking for a room, en suite, that was centrally located, in a safe neighborhood, that was clean and well maintained at a good price. I found this in Ibis – Centrum. Granted, Ibis chain of business style hotels. However, it's cultural charm is located just out the front door on Raday Utca. Raday Utca is a lively street, lined with outdoor café's and restaurants, as far as the eye can see, filled with locals. Besides an occasional car, it seemed like a pedestrian only street. It had many great choices to dine, or just wind down with a drink, and it's just outside the door. I loved this street so much, that I spent all three of my evenings, dining at my favorite restaurant in Budapest! My room was very clean, and well kept. It was spacious for European standards. The bathroom was en suite, very clean and came with modern fixtures. The English speaking staff was very helpful, professional and someone was available 24-7. It provided free internet access as well as free Wi-Fi access. To add to this, the price is hard to beat! I got the room for approximately $77.00 a night (Internet deal back in Sept. 2012). The location is prime. It is a stones throw away from Kalvin Ter, which has a Metro Stop (Blue Metro Line/M3) as well as tram stop.
There are many good choices in Budapest. This is just my experience. Have a good trip!

I spend s lot of time in Budapest and take care of a fair number of tourists. Part of the problem is that there are just too many good hotels in town. My first choice when asked is always the K&K Opera. My second choice is really location based. Find Andrassy ut and draw a line down the middle from the Oktongon metro stop to the river and then find a place you can afford and meets your taste that's within to blocks above or three blocks below the line. you can't do wrong in this zone especially in June. When you find something you like let me know and ill tell you what I know about the immediate area. You might also scroll down as there have been more Budapest posts than usual the last few days.

We just returned from Budapest where we stayed at Kalvin House which we enjoyed. It is near Kalvin ter, so all the positives from the Ibis post are applicable. I would add it is a short distance to the Central Market House and the tram that runs along the river. Vaci Utca dead ends right there. Getting to anywhere from Kalvin ter is pretty easy. We paid 79 euro for a double with en suite bath, breakfast was good. It's older, but I prefer this kind over the non-chain "cookie cutter" hotels when I can get them.

We just returned and stayed at Wombats hostel. It was in a great location, as recommended by James. The cost was 40 euros for a double, with bath. The hostel is in a former nice hotel, with high ceilings and in great shape. The staff were outstanding. I will stay there again. Check out Cici Papas for a great meal at a great price.

Erich, I told you about the neighborhood not the hotel You found that one on your own. I am glad it worked out. Its hard to find a really bad hotel in Budapest. I have only stayed in a handful of hotels in Budapest and that kind of limits my ability to say one is great or best or .... not much context to be really useful. I do recommend the K&K because of the location as much as anything else. Pretty perfect in my book and the hotel is clean and well staffed. But everyone's taste is different and all are correct in what they like and dislike. I am familiar with some of the neighborhoods and their convenience to what there is to do in town. The Wombat is in a pretty ideal location not far from the lower end of Andrassy ut. The walking times above will give you some idea why I like the area. The other reasons is I just like Andrassy, its clean, broad and classy and puts you just a block or two away from some real non tourist Budapest opportunities. I was so impressed with the area that I purchased my vacation apartment in the same zone. So I guess I am biased.

I second the recommendation for Kalvin House, where my wife and I stayed for five night on our 2011 trip. Very large rooms, nice staff, great location. The difference between being near the river or not in Pest is huge. We liked the river and the bridges, easy walk to the Budapest side, tram or metro close by. Very good value for the money too. The only negative was that the wood floors creaked a little.

Scot, We stayed at the Hotel Erzsébet while on a RS tour in Budapest. It was a great location and would recommend the hotel. We stayed an extra night and as I recall it was also very reasonable, especially by pre-paying. Danubius Hotel Astoria & Hotel Erzsébet City Center H-1053 Budapest, Kossuth Lajos u. 19-21.
