We were hoping to take a swim in the Bosphorus. Is there a beach in or near Istanbul for swimming?

You'll have the same luck finding a sandy beach on the Bosphorus at Istanbul as you would finding a sandy beach on the Hudson River in Manhattan or on the Thames in London. If you really want a sand beach and brisk waters that'll get your attention, head for the Black Sea, where there are several okay beaches within a couple of hours away from Istanbul. The Aegean is farther away but warmer water. Seriously though, do a bit of reseach and you'll see that the best beaches in Turkey are on the Mediterranean coast, far, far from Istanbul.
