Chez Gladines--off the beaten path and best escargot of some sort, not the usual in the shell but in a big pot with a sauce--I've ever had. Very authentic place, not another American in site and the bathroom was in the Cave (cellar) and an experience in itself.

We like Le Grand Colbert 2-4 rue Vivienne, metro Bourse or Pyramides.

Check this website, in french, for local reviews.

Had the BEST MEAL EVER and very reasonable in Paris this April. The restaurant is called Le Sporting and it's just a few blocks from one of the train stations. I'll look it up and post the address. We were on a train from Paris to Normandy and shared a car with a lovely lady that was spending the weekend in her country home. She invited us to her restaurant when we returned to Paris. We took her up on the offer...it was AMAZING. Everything was so fresh and the service was fantastic. This is not a tourist hangout as it's not close to major attractions but easy to get to from the metro. Check it out.

Here's the info on Le Sporting

www.lesporting.com address is 3,Rue de Recollets just past the Gare de L'est metro station. We were staying on the Rue Cler and it was a piece of cake by metro to do dinner there. I'd strongly recommend reservations as it was very busy on a Thursday evening.
Bon Appetite!

Bill,
In Paris, I would try these two places:

  1. Leo le Leon
  2. Cousin / Cousine

# 2 is at 36 rue Mouffetard (5th arrond.) and is a take-out crêpes shop. Everyone should do this.
# 1 is an "all-the-rage" restaurant.

bon voyage! P.
