We are planning a trip to Turkey in May. We are starting in Istanbul and would like to go to Cappadocia, Ephesus, plus have a few days to relax at a nearby resort. Any suggestions, and how is the best to travel between these areas?
I can recmommend you to check these webs;
Folks, "Tom" keeps posting to this site here advertising websites selling tours. It's against the rules here to post ads, but "Tom" doesn't seem to care. Buyer very much beware...
We are planning a trip in Oct to the same places. I did a lot of research and ended up booking flights on Turkish air to Cappadoccia and Izmir ( think it was about $500US for two of us for all the flights). We are staying in Cesme (about 45 min west of Izmir) at the end of our trip. It looks like a beautiful resort and beach overlooking one of the Greek Isles. Hope this helps!
We'll be in Turkey in May as well--here's what we're thinking but we haven't worked out the details...taking an overnight train from Istanbul to Ankara and then a bus to Cappadocia. From Cappadocia we plan to take a bus to Antalya and then possibly renting a car to travel around the coastal area (Cirali, Oludeniz and possibly Fethiye). We'll bus to Selcuk as a base for Ephesus and then fly back to Istanbul from Izmir.
Some have recommended TUR-ista--a travel agency in Istanbul and we may wait until we get there to make some of the arrangements. We also may use the help of a Turkish friend to navigate the online Turkish airlines sites.
We're relying on Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide plus Rick Steves Istanbul guide. There is also very helpful info on this site as well.
