Hotels in Rome

Hi, I am going to Rome in May and I was looking at hotels online. It seems like hotels in Rome are more expensive that other places. Do you have any good recommendations on hotels? I would expect the hotel to be very clean, safe and convenient. Thank you so much!!!

Put your question under To the boot instead as you did To the east. You could have more luck with the answer. Some contributors are specialists in certain areas so it could happen they won't see your question.

Anny, You might have a look at This Hotel OR This Hotel which both located in the Termini area. I've stayed at both and found them to be "very clean, safe and convenient". I believe the rates at both are reasonable for Rome. If you have access to the Italy 2012 Guidebook, there are LOTS of Hotels listed there in different parts of the city. Happy travels!

Yes! They are more expensive! I stayed at the Hotel Veneto on my first trip, which we booked through my dad's friend, who works at an embassy. Long story shortbeautiful hotel, HORRIBLE service and experience :( Second time I rented a private apartment for the week. It had its own bathroom and kitchen and was blocks from the Coloseum (peek your head out the window to see it!). Paola Schellino, the owner, was wonderful. She rents several apartments...this is one: http://www.vrbo.com/172747 Really reasonable rates, 2 blocks from the metro, down the street from a bus line, free laundry and very, very safe and clean!

We stayed at the River Palace Hotel in Rome. We were there for six nights at the end of August. It was a great hotel, in a very nice area. The hotel arranged for our taxi to/from the airport. A driver met us at the luggage area. We paid the driver directly and it was an arranged fare. We could walk to the Fountain of Trevi, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and to the Victor Emanuel Monument. You could walk a little further to the Coliseum and to the Forum. The front lobby has two computers for free use. Breakfast was included in our price. We booked the hotel directly at River Palace Hotel.com. It receives great reviews on Trip Advisor. We were very pleased with the hotel and its location.

I second Ken. I stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen and found it to be fine. A reasonable rate for Rome too.
