Has anyone taken this train? Will there be enough to see and do in Prague for 5 days? Does anyone have any particular concerns regarding pickpockets?
Thanks for any help you can provide!!
According to Deutsche Bahn website there is no direct night train between Prague and Amsterdam. You will certainly have enough to see in Prague for 5 days. I recommend Rick Steves book: Prague & the Czech Republic. Prague has some reputation regarding pickpockets so have a moneybelt. I was in Prague many times and personally never had a problem. Rome is much worse.
Thanks Michael and Ilja!! I appreciate your response/s. After a bit of research,
I will definitely book the deluxe sleeper, worth the money. There are three of us and I believe the City Nightline has a triple deluxe available. I hope there is room for a suitcase each!!
There is a direct City Nightline night train between Prague and Amsterdam. Leaves Prague at 7:30pm arrives in Amsterdam 10am. I haven't taken this route before, but I have used different CNL trains in the past. It's worth it to splurge for the Deluxe private sleeper. You get your own bathroom with sink and shower. Table/chairs, and the beds are configured so you can see out windows while you are stretched out. More details here: http://citynightline.ch
The train does not run every day (that's why I first didn't find it). It runs every day since May. It leaves Prague 18:29 that means about 6:30 pm (not 7:30 pm).
You're welcome. There's definitely room for your bags in the Deluxe sleeper...there is a closet with plenty of space
I've been on this train round trip, in second class couchette- do take your own snacks and beverages, as well as earplugs and mask. There were no showers in second class, just sinks and WCs in each carriage. We'd have been happier in the deluxe- hope you enjoy it.
Remember what Rick says about the taxi drivers.
What about the taxi drivers??? My research came up with advice to only use the AAA or PROFITAXI and to ask for a receipt or you can refuse to pay the fare. Also I'm to look for "yellow taxi" on the roof and that the Company name, rates and license # should be displayed on the front doors of the cab. We are arriving about 7:00 p.m. so we have to rely on the taxi system and not the CEDAZ shuttle which won't be running that late. Taxi fare from the airport to Hilton Prague Old Town is around 630 CZK ($34 Canadian). Would this sound right? Thanks everyone again for all your help!! (Has anyone every bought Absinthe over there??)
Michael...thanks, particularly for the link! I had no idea that the deluxe sleepers came with a closet, that is a bonus. Apparently they provide you with a welcome drink and a breakfast in the morning as well. The total cost for the 3 of us, deluxe, will be approximately $1200 Canadian but well worth it for the experience!! I like the "stretching out" part :)
AAA taxi are honest and drivers speak English. 630 Kc is a right price for a cab from the airport to Downtown Prague.
