Tell me what can be deleted from this itinerary. What are the must-sees in this list?
This is by Kaletours, I asked for a trip to explore historical sites elsewhere is Turkey following a week in Istanbul with a larger family group. This itinerary they sent me is 7 days; I will really only have 4. I don’t know if they or someone else can customize for me. This will be in late November. If you’ve done this, what were the best and what would you skip?
I think I would rather stick to the west and cover places like Ephesus. I think Cappadocia will be too far, and this will be in (almost) winter.
Fly from Istanbul to Kayseri and drive to Cappadocia. In Cappadocia, see:
The World Heritage Site of Goreme Open-Air Museum--This is a cluster of rock cut Byzantine churches, chapels and monasteries
*Fairy Chimneys—
*Devrent Valley—
*Uchisar Castle—
*Underground City of Derinkuyu—
Then a bus transfer from Cappadocia to Konya. A free day to explore Konya city.
Then a bus transfer from Konya to Pamukkale; overnight stay in Pamukkale, see rock formations and go to :
*Hierapolis; Kusadasi for overnight.
*Priene is found in a dramatic setting high up in the mountains
*Miletus; important commercial and governmental center from 700 BC until 700 AD.
*Didyma; not an ancient city, but rather a sacred place of pagan worship. Full day tour to Ephesus
*The House of The Virgin Mary . Overnight stay in Kusadasi .
Then they will transfer me to the Izmir airport and put me on a 1 hour flight up to Istanbul, rest of day in Istanbul and overnight. Then to airport to fly out.
This latter in particular needs to be cut, as I will have already had lots of time in Istanbul.
