My wife and I our seasoned travelers, have been to Europe dozens of times. Last April we did Eastern Europe for the first time, enjoyed it very much. We would like to start in Dubrovnik and go east, we usually are gone for 3 weeks, any suggestions ? thank you in advance

Mike, I've never done it myself, but it would seem that you have 2 options. You can either go south into Greece and then on to Turkey or north through the rest of Croatia into Hungary and Romania. It depends on whether you want to see the sea.
One thing to keep in mind, I have done some train research on getting from Budapest to Ljubljana. It's either a VERY slow jaunt through Croatia or a faster but longer train from Ljubljana to Salzburg to Vienna and on to Budapest.
