Does anyone have suggestions, including a good tour company from a day trip from Istanbul to Ephesus

I would agree. I have seen day trips that fly there and back, but I really don't think that would be a good use of your time. There is so much to see, it really is a good overnight trip.

i wonder if it exists - the bus from selcuk to ist is about 8-9 hours, so it's highly unlikely there is one - unless you fly from ist to izmir, then train/bus to selcuk and efes. its better to just overnight in selcuk to see efes, and in fact selcuk has some pretty good stuff in addition to efes, so it's well worth a night.
