Sandra, you may want to put this question on the "To the West" portion of the website as Amsterdam is Western Europe. I'm pretty sure "To the East" has a lot less traffic than "To the West" anyway...

i have always enjoyed the hotel brouwer on singel canal. great old house, superb location, excellent breakfasts and reasonable pricing. get reservations early, twice i could not stay with them due to the house being full. have fun, be safe.

Do you have Rick Steves Amsterdam Guide Book yet? If not, get it, as it has lots of places in different price ranges. I have found it very helpful during my several trips to Amsterdam.
