Night Train from Prague to Budapest

Has anybody taken the Night Train from Prague to Budapest ? I found the schedule on the DB Bahn website, but looking for information about : a) ticket price b) guidance for making reservations (sounds like waiting until we get to prague is the most economical) c) tips and tricks for comfort and/or safety Thanks!

Jennie, this link MAY help you with an idea of cost as it deals with Eastern European night train info even though it's not your exact itinerary. Too bad every country doesn't run a train website like Germany. It would make train travel in Europe so much easier! http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/55097
As far as tips/tricks. Do a search on the Rick Steve's site and you will find tons of threads about these issues. It's been asked tons of times, so you'll get more info than you could ever need! ;)

Hi Jennie We were in Prague in May and took the night train to Krakow. For a private sleeping cabin, it was about $80 CAN each. (We went to the train station a day before and bought tickets then.) In the cabin were bunk beds with pillows and a duvet, a sink with a bit of bottled water for brushing teeth and a couple of hand towels.... and it had a locking door so we had no worries about our luggage! The bathroom was down the hall. It was a great experience and very comfortable... really nice to fall asleep listening to the clack, clack, clack of the wheels on the track. The train left Prague around 10pm, and we arrived in Krakow about 6:30am. Not sure if any of this will be the same for you on your trip to Budapest, but hope you have a great time! Prague is a beautiful city, we can't wait to go back. Anne

Anne, you actually gave me some info that I wanted! We're taking that night train and I was curious about a private cabin. That's quite reasonable. Do you have pictures of the cabin? Was it a cabin for two?

Hi Amy We had a sleeping cabin for 2... bunk beds - each a single with bedding for each one. There was an optional third bunk but we didn't need it. Here is a pic of the sink, behind that are the bunk beds and to the right was a place to hang coats and store the luggage. http://gallery.flybc.ca/albums/prague/Prague_train.jpg Hope that helps!

Anne, you rock. Thanks for the picture. This looks a bit more comfortable then when we did the night train from Munich to Prague with two of our friends. There were four of us in the cabin and no sink/bathroom... Although no toilet, this is still so much more cushy!
