5/6 nights in Croatia,...

Hello, A friend and I will be spending some time in Venice and Milan, then flying to Croatia from Milan. We are thinking of seeing Dubrovnik for couple nights then going to Split and the islands off of Split (Hvar, Trogir, etc). Any recommendations? We have the opportunity of flying into either Dubrovnik or Split. We are looking for fun, beach atmospheres. Thanks!

Islands like Brac and Hvar are much better served from Split than Dubrovnik, so keep that in mind. I visited Brac for 3 days which has a beautiful (and too well known) beach called Bol, which I got to via the island's bus (the ferry was from Split). When in Dubrovnik, the island of Lokrum is a very quick ferry ride but the beaches aren't the main attraction (I don't think). You can also visit Mljet - not sure if easier to get to from Dubrovnik or Split (you'll have to consult the jadrolina ferry schedule either way) Fly to wherever is least expensive (I bet it's Split). Bus service between Dubrovnik and Split is cheap and frequent. You can stop in Makarska riviera on the way - lots of beaches and places to stay.
