Travel in Croatia

We are thinking of taking a ferry from Venice to Rovinj after finishing a cruise. Would like to visit/tour Rovinj and then go to Plitvice National Park and return to Rovinj
and then back to Venice by ferry for flight home to U.S.
Does Venice to Plitvice and back seem feasible in 5 days.
Are there land tours from Rovinj to Plitvice? Any other advice? Thanks very much.

When we went, the drive from Split to Plitvice was approx. 3 hours, and Split to Dubrovnik by bus was 4.5 hours (so 3-3.5 by car??). You might find the area in Slovenia quite interesting and not so much of a drain on your time.

5 days may be actually a bit too long... Istria itself is much, much more interesting than Plitvice that can be visited in one day (regular, guided tour lasts about 4 hours)
Also, like mentioned, Slovenia may be interesting for a day trip - Postojna caves are not too far from Rovinj

The trip is very doable in 5 days. As you've undoubtedly discovered, ferries (usually catamarans) don't run daily so you'll need to schedule around their sailings. I used Venezia Lines and was pleased. Atlas, a Croatian tour company, also runs a catamaran between Porec and Venice, but not sure whether you can book that without a tour. Uniline, a Croatian rental car company, has an office in Rovinj. Most other rental car companies are based in Pula (or possibly Porec). Plitvice can be done with 1 night. Stay at one of the park hotels (I like Hotel Jezero), which can be booked thru the park's website. Drive over in the afternoon, tour next day and drive back, or drive over in the morning, tour in afternoon and drive back next morning. Be sure to plan a meal at Licka Kuca restaurant - excellent grilled fish and meats. Car is handy for touring Istria. Pula is very interesting, as are Motovun and Groznjan. A trip to Pirin in Slovenia is also possible, if your rental allows. Be sure to get as international drivers permit from AAA, as it will be needed for the car rental. One last thought, you could contact Atlas and ask if they offer a day trip from Istria to Plitvice. If they do, it would likely be from Porec or Pula rather than Rovinj.
