My family will be vacationing for two weeks in Cesme, Turkey this summer and will be renting a vehicle. Any advice regarding car rental companies, including favorites? Our travel agent encourages the use of major companies but they are nearly twice as expensive.
Brian, another good way to keep the cost down on the car rental is to make sure that you DO NOT pick up your car at the airport. Make sure that you ask your rental agent to check rates in the closest town, or the first town that you will staying in. You can usually drop a car off at an airport with no additional fees, but picking it up there (usually) results in a nice high rate!
Better yet; let your fingers do the walking! Log on to the different auto rental agencies, and play around with locations and agencies. Make sure that you also check Auto Europe, and Europcar. Also use a discount rental code and watch the prices drop!
My husband and I have rented through Europecar all 3 times we've driven in Europe. We've had no issues and the price has been good. But we haven't rented through them directly. It's always been through a travel agency that has been able to get us a discount.
Just to note that automatic transmission will significantly more than manual transmission. If you do need it though, reserve in advance or else you won't have a car available for you if you just walk in to do the rental.
Suggestion is to call around for prices and check travelocity.ca & expedia.ca to compare.
