Traveling in Greece

I am 18 trying to plan a trip for a friend and myself for this summer. It is the first trip I have ever planned and I have already done a lot of research by myself. I am having trouble finding ferries though. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF FERRIES GO FROM THIRA(SANTORINI) TO EPIDAVROS? I can't for the life of my find ferry schedules for that type of itinerary. Any suggestions would be helpful Thanks

Katherine, you can't find that ferry because it doesn't exist. From Santorini you will have to fly or take the ferry back to Athens/Piraeus. From Athens a bus would be the least-expensive and easiest way to get to Epidavros. Find a bus going to Nafplion, that's the same bus to Epidavros. This will be departing from BUS TERMINAL A at 100 Kifissou Street. There's also probably at least one organized bus tour of Epidavros that leaves from Central Athens every day during the summer. Any travel agency in Athens can assist you with this. I suggest if your first arrival in Greece is by plane at the Athens Airport, find the travel desk of Amphitrion Holidays in the Main Hall between exit/entry doors 2 & 3. They should be able to give you the advice and information you need.

Here is a link to a bus schedule that includes Epidavros.

For general ferry information you can use one of two very good websites:

http://www.gtp.gr

http://www.openseas.gr/OPENSEAS/index_en.vm

Be advised that ferry schedules for next summer will not be available until sometime in April or May, or possibly even later for the late-summer months. What you can do now, on the Openseas website, is use the calendar function to backtrack to your travel dates (for last summer) to see what was available then so you have an idea of what it will be like next summer. Next year's schedule will be similar. Use Piraeus for Athens.

Have a great time!

I should also mention that Amphitrion Holidays is open 24/7/365 and you can also buy ferry tickets there.

As Lee said, there is no passenger ferry port near Epidavros that will help in your case. Is Epidaurus the only place on the Peloponesus that you are planning to travel? If you are considering being there for several days you may want to think about renting a car. It may be more expensive but the buses can take a lot of time out of your trip and can limit where you can go significantly. If Epidaurus is your only destination in that area (although I would think you probably want to see Corinth and Mycenae, too?) a day tour out of Athens may be your best bet!
